John was admitted as a solicitor in 1967 and is a Consultant to the firm. He brings over 40 years of broadly based legal experience to his work in estate planning. Until John joined de Groots Estate Planning Team in July 2005, he practised in rural Queensland as a general practitioner and developed an extensive skills base in meeting the legal needs of a wide ranging group of commercial, rural and business clients.
Prior to joining de Groots, John was the senior partner of the large provincial firm, Payne Butler Lang at Bundaberg.
John's experience is particularly valuable when dealing with more complex matters involving superannuation funds, trusts, companies, corporate and trust structures, revenue and difficult estate planning issues. John's experience is especially sought after and valued by rural clients.
John has always retained a special interest in revenue matters as well as estate, business and succession planning issues. He is actively involved in the formation and ongoing management of prescribed private funds and private ancillary funds and in the charitable and not for profit sector generally.
John is married to Kay and they have two adult children. John is a past Rotary district governor and has been a Rotarian for over 40 years.
